Vancouver to face Minnesota United in Western Conference semifinal

In a thrilling MLS Cup playoff match, the Vancouver Whitecaps defeated the Portland Timbers 2-0 in front of a sellout crowd in Portland on Sunday.

The Whitecaps opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Ryan Gauld curled a beautiful shot into the top corner from outside the box.

Vancouver doubled its lead in the 67th minute when Deiber Caicedo finished off a nice passing play with a low shot past Portland goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic.

The Timbers pushed hard for a goal in the final minutes, but the Whitecaps defense held strong to secure the victory.

With the win, Vancouver advances to the Western Conference semifinal where they will face Minnesota United FC.
